A Meadow Lake RCMP officer has been charged with mischief following a complaint from a member of the Waterhen Lake First Nation.
Meadow Lake RCMP received the complaint on March 19 of a vehicle being damaged on Waterhen Lake First Nation.
The complainant alleged that four tires had been punctured with a knife on March 18.
The vehicle involved was an SUV. The incident occurred on duty while Irwin and other RCMP officers were conducting an investigation.
The North Battleford Provincial General Investigation Section of the RCMP undertook an investigation. Following completion of the investigation, it was forwarded to Saskatchewan Justice for an independent opinion.
Based on the investigation and opinion of the Crown, one charge of mischief under $5,000 was laid against Cpl. Shawn Irwin, 36, of Meadow Lake.
Irwin has been served a summons and is scheduled to appear in court on June 24. Irwin works as a Police Service Dog handler out of the Meadow Lake RCMP detachment.
He has 11 years of service. Irwin is currently on administrative duties and an internal code of conduct investigation has been ordered.
